After the game, manager Jurgen Klopp labelled the incident\u00a0\u201c100% a foul\u201d, while Mac Allister called the decision not to award a penalty a\u00a0\u201cmistake\u201d\u00a0by referee Michael Oliver.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Match Officials Mic\u2019d Up this week however, PGMOL chief refereeing officer Webb came out in defence of Oliver and VAR official Stuart Attwell, insisting that the right decision was made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the referee gives it on the field, it would have been a check complete by the VAR and equally, having not given it, it\u2019s also check complete,\u201d Webb said. \u201cYou hear Michael Oliver say the ball\u2019s in between two players going together. The ball is too low to head. Doku, lifts his foot to play the ball, and he does make contact on the ball.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/01hsdkzb00hen807ngra.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Jeremy Doku, Alexis Mac Allister\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Liverpool were not happy with the decision \/ Alex Livesey \u2013 Danehouse\/GettyImages<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>\u201cAnd yes, we know there\u2019s some contact on Mac Allister as well, Mac Allister comes into him, Mac Allister is not really playing the ball either. So, I understand why it\u2019s split opinion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it would have been checked complete either way, not wanting to to re-referee the gaming situations that are not really clear which is what we think the VAR is is for in this situation. The VAR stays out of it. I think that is what we would we would expect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Webb added: \u201cYou want to to know with clarity, with certainty that you\u2019re making the right decision. You know, you don\u2019t always have sufficient information in the moment to make that decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly, Michael didn\u2019t have it in this situation. And then the VAR looks at it and doesn\u2019t see a clear and obvious situation.
