{"id":163425,"date":"2024-03-20T05:20:46","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T05:20:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/03\/20\/new-safety-features-mandated-for-all-school-buses-to-reduce-accidents\/"},"modified":"2024-03-20T05:20:46","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T05:20:46","slug":"new-safety-features-mandated-for-all-school-buses-to-reduce-accidents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/03\/20\/new-safety-features-mandated-for-all-school-buses-to-reduce-accidents\/","title":{"rendered":"New Safety Features Mandated for All School Buses to Reduce Accidents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-309276\" alt=\"\" width=\"853\" height=\"362\"  data-lazy- src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/stop-arm.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-309276\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/stop-arm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"853\" height=\"362\"  \/>The government has completed drafting a policy that will govern the use of school buses in the country, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Murkomen stated that the policy mandates installing stop arms on school buses, a practice observed in other countries such as the United States of America.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe have finalised the drafting of the School Transport Rules aimed at better regulating and enhancing safety in the transportation of our children.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThese regulations contain the provisions that will make it mandatory for those building school buses to include material and technology that will protect passengers in case of accidents,\u201d<\/em> the CS said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, school buses must have attendants to bolster the safety of children, particularly those transporting preschool and primary school students.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, CS Murkomen directed that school buses must be equipped with CCTV systems to enhance student safety.<\/p>\n<p>The CS also outlined that all school vehicles will incorporate technology capable of tracking their movements on the roads.<\/p>\n<p>Murkomen mentioned that the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is in the final stages of establishing the standards for these devices.<\/p>\n<p>In his directive, Murkomen also unveiled new measures aimed at curbing the increasing cases of accidents in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Among the measures he specified for implementation was the mandatory medical testing for all drivers in the country.
