These labels traditionally play a vital role in artiste development, including distribution and marketing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Artistes who lack support must navigate the technical, financial, and promotional aspects of the business alone, making success an acclivitous battle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1027965 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Guru-two.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"995\" height=\"1024\"  \/>This burden is evident in the struggles of the most decorated African rapper Michael Owusu Addo better known as Sarkodie, who openly discussed the financial strain of self-funding his projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u2018It\u2019s tough without a label; I\u2019ve been self-funding my music\u201d, Sarkodie made this proclamation during the panel discussion at the 3i Africa Summit Partners and Stakeholders Mixer held in Accra a week ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The panel focused on exploring the convergence of the Creative Industry, Policy, and Fintech.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In February 2023, a glimmer of hope emerged for Ghanaian music. Celebrated Hiplife\/Hip-Hop artiste Guru signed a seemingly promising 6-year record deal with Australia-based Record label Indi Royal Group of Companies (IRGC).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The excitement was perceptible \u2013 IRGC promised to represent Guru\u2019s music across Africa, Europe, Australia, and America.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1027958 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Guru-5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This partnership aimed to introduce Guru\u2019s unique sound and Ghanaian music culture to a global audience, even including collaborations with international artistes and a world tour.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The news sent the Ghanaian music scene into a frenzy. Guru, a self-made artiste for over a decade through his own NKZ  label, finally had major label backing. Fans believed this deal would propel Ghanaian music onto the world stage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1027957 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Guru-3.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"756\" height=\"1280\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But, a year has passed, and there\u2019s a deafening silence. Despite five years remaining on the contract, the music industry has yet to see tactile results from the \u201dPooley\u201d rapper\u2019s deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The initial excitement has transformed into a sense of unease and unanswered questions. What\u2019s causing the delay? Has the promised global exposure materialized?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">All efforts to reach<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Guru, known in real life as MARADONA YEBOAH ADJEI to ascertain whether the deal was just to \u2018DRIBBLE\u2019 the minds of his fans and the Ghanaian music fraternity have proven unproductive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A significant challenge for the Ghanaian music industry is the lack of well-developed record labels.
