The great escape is on for Sheffield Wednesday, who have hit form at just the right time as they look to prolong their stay in the Championship.

""

The Owls have won four of their last five matches, and their improved performances mean they are within striking distance of a place outside the relegation zone.

Wednesday have been in the bottom two for most of the campaign, but they are just five points adrift of Plymouth in 16th and can edge closer to safety with a win over the Pilgrims on Tuesday.

Team news

Di’Shon Bernard could return for Sheffield Wednesday, having missed the weekend win over Rotherham through suspension, while Dominic Iorfa made his return from injury in that game and is pushing for a start.

Josh Windass and Kristian Pedersen remain long-term absentees, but Callum Paterson is close to a return after concussion.

The Pilgrims have a clean bill of health, but changes may be made following Saturday’s loss to Ipswich.

The stats

"Ian
Ian Foster’s Plymouth have lost three of their last four games without scoring

Sheffield Wednesday have won four of their last five league matches, while Plymouth have won just two of their 17 away Championship matches this season.

The Pilgrims have failed to score in three of their last four Championship matches, losing all of those ties.

The Owls have scored two or more goals in five of their past 10 home matches, while seven of their last 10 home matches have featured over 2.5 goals.

Prediction

Sheffield Wednesday have spent most of the Championship campaign in the bottom two, but a stunning upturn in form has given them genuine hope of escaping the drop zone.

The Owls have won four of their last five matches, and they will fancy their chances of improving their perilous position against an out-of-form Plymouth side.

Wednesday are warm 10/11 favourites with LiveScore Bet to win this contest, and that can be supported with a fair degree of confidence as the Hillsborough side have won their last two home meetings with the Pilgrims, who are sliding down the standings following a run that has seen them win just one of their previous six league fixtures.

Argyle are nervously looking over their shoulder as their fellow strugglers are narrowing the gap in a frantic fight for survival, and the goals have dried up at the wrong time too.

Ian Foster’s men will view this fixture as a winnable one, but it is hard to have much faith in a side that have failed to score in three of their last four outings.

Two goals on the road at Middlesbrough a fortnight ago are the only bright spot in a miserable run for Plymouth, who lost 2-0 to Ipswich on Saturday.

The Pilgrims have not won at Wednesday in three attempts since 2011, and their last visit resulted in a 1-0 defeat.

A home win looks likely, while a 2-0 scoreline at Hillsborough on Tuesday also looks worth considering at odds of 13/2 with LiveScore Bet.
