{"id":157680,"date":"2024-03-01T14:56:02","date_gmt":"2024-03-01T14:56:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/03\/01\/we-will-prioritise-citizen-engagement-piac-chairperson\/"},"modified":"2024-03-01T14:56:02","modified_gmt":"2024-03-01T14:56:02","slug":"we-will-prioritise-citizen-engagement-piac-chairperson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/03\/01\/we-will-prioritise-citizen-engagement-piac-chairperson\/","title":{"rendered":"We will prioritise citizen engagement \u2013 PIAC Chairperson \u2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Emerita Professor Elizabeth Ardayfio-Schandorf, Chairperson of the Public Interest Accountability Committee (PIAC), intends to prioritize citizen participation in her new position.<\/p>\n<p>She said raising awareness of citizen engagement in Committee\u2019s activities and functions would improve understanding of how oil revenue is used.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Ardayfio-Schandorf said this during a Facebook Live session where she introduced herself to stakeholders, which was monitored by the Ghana News Agency in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>She said she intended to introduce initiatives that would build the interest of citizens on how oil revenue was used by the Petroleum Revenue Management Act (PRMA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne important area in which leadership must focus and which is critical is the organization of regional and district engagement,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairperson emphasised the need to involve citizens in PIAC\u2019s activities and make intentions clear to facilitate smooth operations.<\/p>\n<p>She said that PIAC\u2019s annual district and regional workshop on oil revenue and allocation demonstrated the Committee\u2019s citizen-centered approach.<\/p>\n<p>Prof Ardayfio-Schandorf said the Committee plans to engage stakeholders, particularly the media, to raise awareness of its work.<\/p>\n<p>The engagement with the media would enable the Committee to provide updates on the upstream sector and fund utilisation.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairperson said the media would provide citizens with more information on the trends, allowing for proper feedback to the Committee.<\/p>\n<p>She said the Committee\u2019s initiative to encourage citizen engagement included publishing a non-technical version of its report.<\/p>\n<p>The citizen version had made it simple to have a better understanding of the management and utilization of oil revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Before her election as PIAC Chairperson, Prof Ardayfio-Schandorf was a representative of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences on the Committee.<\/p>\n<p>She is a Geographer, an Environmental Advisor, and a Rural System and Development Consultant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source:\u00a0<\/strong>GNA<\/p>\n<p><!-- AI CONTENT END 1 --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Emerita Professor Elizabeth Ardayfio-Schandorf, Chairperson of the Public Interest Accountability Committee (PIAC), intends to prioritize citizen participation in her new position.
