A 42-year-old sickle cell patient, Stephen Danquah is suffering from a rare condition known as priapism.<\/p>\n
This causes his penis to erect for two consecutive days without any sexual stimulation.<\/p>\n
According to him, he is unable to urinate, sleep, or find relief as a result of his condition.<\/p>\n

He said he is contemplating suicide due to the unbearable pain neglect by his family. <\/p>\n
Mr. Danquah is struggling to raise funds for the surgery at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been suffering with this erection for two days now. It\u2019s been excruciating, affecting my ability to urinate and sleep. My family keeps their distance because they\u2019re afraid. I\u2019m desperate for funds for medication and surgery. The hospital warned me that my life is at risk without intervention,\u201d he recounted tearfully in an interview on TV3.<\/p>\n
Addressing the issue, a urologist highlighted the common occurrence of priapism among sickle cell patients like Stephen, underscoring its profound impact on their quality of life.<\/p>\n
Priapism, characterized by prolonged and painful erections due to blood trapping in the penis, constitutes a medical emergency.<\/p>\n
Untreated priapism can result in permanent penile damage, erectile dysfunction, or even gangrene.<\/p>\n
