{"id":151624,"date":"2024-02-15T04:50:24","date_gmt":"2024-02-15T04:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/02\/15\/cabinet-approves-privatisation-of-state-owned-hotels-lodges\/"},"modified":"2024-02-15T04:50:24","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T04:50:24","slug":"cabinet-approves-privatisation-of-state-owned-hotels-lodges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/02\/15\/cabinet-approves-privatisation-of-state-owned-hotels-lodges\/","title":{"rendered":"Cabinet Approves Privatisation of State-owned Hotels, Lodges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-307489\" alt=\"\" width=\"891\" height=\"492\"  data-lazy- src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/state.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-307489\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/state.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"891\" height=\"492\"  \/>In the ongoing program initiated last year, the Cabinet, chaired by President William Ruto in a meeting at State House Nairobi on Wednesday, approved the privatization of at least seven State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).<\/p>\n<p>The move is aimed at unlocking the potential of these companies and securing the best value for the public.<\/p>\n<p>The SOEs include the Development Bank of Kenya where the government is a majority shareholder with 89.3pc ownership with TransCentury owning the remaining 10.7pc.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe decision by our nation\u2019s apex policy-making organ was informed by the fact the Bank had transitioned into a fully-fledged Deposit-taking commercial bank regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya,\u201d<\/em> Cabinet Office said.<\/p>\n<p>As of June 30, 2023, DBK, established in 1964, possessed total assets amounting to Kes.17.9 billion.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Affected hotels and lodges<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The additional State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) slated for sale include Mombasa Beach Hotel, Ngulia Safari Lodge, and Voi Safari Lodge, all operating under Kenya Safari Lodges and Hotels Limited, Golf Hotel Limited, Sunset Hotel Limited, Mt.
