{"id":150534,"date":"2024-02-12T18:12:22","date_gmt":"2024-02-12T18:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/02\/12\/enforce-laws-to-deal-with-unplanned-settlements\/"},"modified":"2024-02-12T18:12:22","modified_gmt":"2024-02-12T18:12:22","slug":"enforce-laws-to-deal-with-unplanned-settlements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/02\/12\/enforce-laws-to-deal-with-unplanned-settlements\/","title":{"rendered":"Enforce laws to deal with unplanned settlements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to play a key role in checking unplanned settlements in their localities.<\/p>\n<p>The president observed with concern the developing trend, which he believes poses a threat to national development.<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Chief Director at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Amin Abdul-Rahaman, at the inauguration of assembly members of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly in Accra on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He urged MMDAs to enforce local laws to deal with the menace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2020, your predecessors\u2019 attention was drawn to a major challenge relating to unplanned and haphazard development within the jurisdiction of most district assemblies.
