Coventry’s 12-game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday with a 2-1 loss at Norwich but they will look for an immediate response against Sheffield Wednesday in their FA Cup fourth-round replay.

Reaching the Championship play-offs will be the main aim for the Sky Blues, who are only one point outside the top six.

But the club were FA Cup winners in 1987 and are sure to be tempted by the prospect of a potential fifth-round tie at home to National League South minnows Maidstone.

Sheffield Wednesday will be thinking along similar lines but they are in the thick of the Championship relegation battle and may have to keep a few of their key players fresh for Friday’s home clash with Birmingham.

Team news

Coventry midfielder Ben Sheaf was forced off in the first half of last Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at home to Bristol City with a hamstring injury.

January signing Victor Torp stepped in for Sheaf in Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Norwich and will be hoping to keep his place.

The Sky Blues will be forced into at least one change with defender Liam Kitching starting a suspension.

Sheffield Wednesday have been without Callum Paterson (concussion) since Boxing Day and Dominic Iorfa (leg) remains absent.

Goalkeeper James Beadle is cup-tied and deadline-day loan signings Ian Poveda and Kristian Pedersen are ineligible.

The stats

Coventry have lost just one of their last 13 matches, while all of their last eight fixtures have seen both teams score.

Mark Robins’s side have netted in 16 consecutive fixtures.

Sheffield Wednesday have gone five games without a victory.

The Owls are the lowest scorers in the Championship with 22 goals and have blanked in each of their last two matches.

Prediction

Coventry remain well placed in the Championship despite Saturday’s loss at Norwich and they can take a step further in the FA Cup by defeating Sheffield Wednesday at the CBS Arena.

The Sky Blues had a taste of Wembley in the 2022-23 Championship play-off final and they may be hopeful of getting there in this season’s FA Cup.

Mark Robins’s side have been extremely strong on home soil, losing one of 16 matches, and should have too much quality for the Owls, who are likely to be preoccupied with their battle for second-tier survival.

Wednesday are sitting eight points adrift of safety and their main priority for the week will be Friday’s league match at home to Birmingham.
