{"id":147018,"date":"2024-02-02T21:27:47","date_gmt":"2024-02-02T21:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/02\/02\/gwl-denies-procuring-one-drop-water-treatment-product\/"},"modified":"2024-02-02T21:27:47","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T21:27:47","slug":"gwl-denies-procuring-one-drop-water-treatment-product","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/02\/02\/gwl-denies-procuring-one-drop-water-treatment-product\/","title":{"rendered":"GWL denies procuring &#8216;one drop&#8217; water treatment product"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Ghana Water Limited has refuted the claim made by Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nettey George, regarding the importation of a new water treatment called \u2018One Drop\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>This follows an accusation made by the MP on Metro TV\u2019s Good Morning Ghana on February 1, 2024, alleging that the government, together with GWCL, has procured a water treatment product, \u2018One Drop\u2019, for use by the company instead of traditional chlorine.<\/p>\n<p>GWL, in a statement issued on February 2, 2023, denied the allegation, explaining that the company follows established protocols, in conjunction with regulatory agencies and stakeholders, before endorsing any new water treatment products.<\/p>\n<p>It said, \u201cPer GWL\u2019s Standard Operating Procedures, any decision regarding the adoption of new water treatment technologies or products is made through a comprehensive evaluation process, in consultation with relevant stakeholders and regulatory agencies like the Food and Drugs Authority, Ghana Standards Authority, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission and communicated transparently to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It further indicated that \u201cBy GWL\u2019s internal procedures, management reserves the right to act on a positive evaluation report by writing to either the Public Procurement Agency (PPA) for sole sourcing or to advertise for competitive tendering processes. Sam Nettey George on Metro TV\u2019s Good Morning Ghana on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> of February, 2024 alleging that the government of Ghana and the Ghana Water Ltd have imported a water treatment product, namely \u201cOne Drop,\u201d for use in the treatment of water as a substitute for the traditional chlorine.<\/p>\n<p>The GWL would like to unequivocally deny the allegation, provide clarity and to reassure the public on this matter.<\/p>\n<p>The facts are as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Per GWL\u2019s Standard Operating Procedures, any decision regarding the adoption of new water treatment technologies or products is made through a comprehensive evaluation process, in consultation with relevant stakeholders and regulatory agencies like the Food and Drugs Authority, Ghana Standards Authority, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission and communicated transparently to the public.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>By GWLs internal procedures, management reserves the right to act on a positive evaluation report by writing to either the Public Procurement Agency (PPA) for sole sourcing or to advertise for competitive tendering processes. No contract has been awarded by GWL for the supply of the \u201cOne Drop\u201d disinfectant for water treatment.<\/li>\n<li>The current disinfectants being used for water treatment are <strong>Chlorine Gas, Calcium Hypochlorite granules and Chlorine Tablets<\/strong> which are all Chlorine-based disinfectants. All these disinfectants are in adequate quantities at our various treatment plants and warehouses.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>GWCL remains committed to ensuring the provision of safe, clean, and potable water to the citizens of this republic. We uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance in our operations.<\/p>\n<p>Management of GWL will appreciate it if all stakeholders refrain from spreading unfounded allegations that may undermine public trust in GWL and the integrity of our operations. We remain open to constructive dialogue and collaboration with all stakeholders to advance the common goal of improving water quality and access in Ghana.
