{"id":145745,"date":"2024-01-31T10:46:42","date_gmt":"2024-01-31T10:46:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/31\/ndc-approves-the-most-outrageous-afcon-budgets-gfa-exco-member-responds-to-okudzeto-ablakwa\/"},"modified":"2024-01-31T10:46:42","modified_gmt":"2024-01-31T10:46:42","slug":"ndc-approves-the-most-outrageous-afcon-budgets-gfa-exco-member-responds-to-okudzeto-ablakwa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/31\/ndc-approves-the-most-outrageous-afcon-budgets-gfa-exco-member-responds-to-okudzeto-ablakwa\/","title":{"rendered":"NDC approves the most outrageous AFCON budgets \u2013 GFA ExCo Member responds to Okudzeto Ablakwa \u2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A member of the Ghana Football Association\u2018s (GFA) Executive Council, Nana Oduro Sarfo, has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) superintended Ghana\u2019s most expensive AFCON campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Oduro Sarfo was reacting to North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa\u2019s expos\u00e9 on the Sports Ministry\u2019s budget for AFCON 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In a social media post, the NDC MP published an official government document that showed the country allocated in excess of $8.5m for the tournament in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Asempa FM on Tuesday, Oduro Sarfo claimed that the MP made the document public as a diversionary tactic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe may have published the details to influence public discourse and deflect our focus from important issues. Maybe he did not like the fact that the New Patriotic Party\u2019s Parliamentary Primaries were peaceful, free and fair,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr because he does not want Ghanaians to talk about the resumption of work on the National Cathedral.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oduro Sarfo doubled down by stating that, in the history of Ghana\u2019s participation at the AFCON, the most ridiculous budgets have been approved by NDC governments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have done my research and concluded that, in the history of this country, NDC governments have approved the most outrageous of budgets as far as AFCON is concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though the prize money for AFCON 2015 was $1.5, they (the NDC government) budgeted $15m.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joy Sports checks have however disproved this allegation.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2015, then Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga informed Parliament that Ghana\u2019s approved budget for the tournament was $4,774,519.19.<\/p>\n<p>Government paid $3,224,139.20 in bonuses and allowances to players, the technical team, the management committee, as well as other officials of the team.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry said it reduced payments to players by 20%, while technical team members saw a 30% cut on their earnings from the previous tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Mahama Ayariga also told Parliament that the Ministry spent \u20b53,242,588.00 on the AFCON 2015 Qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p>However, the minority caucus in Parliament rejected his account of government\u2019s expenditure because it did not include a full breakdown or an intermixed report of the budget.<\/p>\n<p><!-- AI CONTENT END 1 --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A member of the Ghana Football Association\u2018s (GFA) Executive Council, Nana Oduro Sarfo, has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) superintended Ghana\u2019s most expensive AFCON campaign.
