{"id":144342,"date":"2024-01-27T19:58:44","date_gmt":"2024-01-27T19:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/27\/npp-primaries-the-winners-and-popular-losers\/"},"modified":"2024-01-27T19:58:44","modified_gmt":"2024-01-27T19:58:44","slug":"npp-primaries-the-winners-and-popular-losers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/27\/npp-primaries-the-winners-and-popular-losers\/","title":{"rendered":"NPP primaries: The winners and popular losers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"696\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/MixCollage-27-Jan-2024-04-55-PM-1356-696x696.jpg\" alt title=\"NPP\"><\/div>\n<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday, January 27 held its parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2024 general election.<\/p>\n<p>Some 19 incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) decided not to seek re-election.<\/p>\n<p>However, disappointments and surprises were recorded as several others lost their bids to return to Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>In Dome-Kwabenya, incumbent MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo lost to Mike Ocquaye Jnr. who secured a convincing win with 1194 votes as against her 328 votes,<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Freda Prempeh, was also ousted in the Tano North constituency by sole contender, Dr. Gideon Boako, Spokesperson for the Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large td-caption-align-https:\/\/www.adomonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-01-27-at-17.17.48.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-01-27-at-17.17.48-1020x1024.jpeg\" alt class=\"wp-image-2348021\"><\/figure>\n<p>Dr Boako cruised to victory with 444 votes while Madam Prempeh had 221.<\/p>\n<p>The Abuakwa North constituency also recorded a change of guard, with incumbent Gifty Twum-Ampofo losing to Nana Ampaw Addo-Frempong popularly known as \u201cBuffalo,\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large td-caption-align-https:\/\/www.adomonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-01-27-at-17.17.48-1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-01-27-at-17.17.48-1-1020x1024.jpeg\" alt class=\"wp-image-2348022\"><\/figure>\n<p>Mr Addo-Frempong garnered 222 votes while the incumbent had 202.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from these, Deputy Minister of Health, Tina Gifty Mensah was also defeated in the Weija Gbawe constituency by Coastal Development Authority (CoDA) CEO, Jerry Ahmed Shaib.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Shaib who Madam Mensah described as a foreigner and rented aspirant emerged victorious, securing 786 votes compared to the landlord\u2019s 361.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Check below some of the names that have come up so far:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Joseph Cudjoe \u2013 Effia<\/li>\n<li>Freda Prempeh \u2013 Tano North<\/li>\n<li>Adwoa Sarfo \u2013 Dome Kwabenya<\/li>\n<li>Ama Pomaa Boateng \u2013 Juaben<\/li>\n<li>Sheila Bartels \u2013 Ablekuma North<\/li>\n<li>Moses Anim \u2013 Trobu<\/li>\n<li>John Benam \u2013 Zabzugu<\/li>\n<li>Tina Mensah \u2013 Weija\/Gbawe<\/li>\n<li>Eugene Antwi \u2013 Subin&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Akwasi Afrifa Mensah \u2013 Amasaman&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Dr Amoako Kissi \u2013 Anyaa Sowutuom<\/li>\n<li>Hanson Nortey \u2013 Tema Central<\/li>\n<li>Bright Wereko Brobbey \u2013 Twifo Heman Lower Denkyira&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Elvis Donkor \u2013 Abura Asebu Kwamankese&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Erickson Abeka \u2013 Shama<\/li>\n<li>Akwasi Darko Boateng \u2013 Bosome Freho&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Kwadwo Asante \u2013 Suhum&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Mahama Seini \u2013 Daboya&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Atwima Mponua: Isaac Kwame Asiamah <\/li>\n<li>Bosome Freho: Akwasi Darko Boateng <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>            &lt;!&#8211;  <!--\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen&gt;--><\/p>\n<p>            [embedded content]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday, January 27 held its parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2024 general election.
