A woman has revealed how wearing white on her sister\u2019s\u00a0wedding\u00a0day has caused a family feud between the two. After sharing her sartorial sorrow, she recounted how she\u2019d chosen to wear a white shirt and black trousers, as \u2018most of the men at the wedding were wearing the same\u2019.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cThe dress code for the wedding was formal and women can\u2019t wear white, but I thought it would be okay because I wasn\u2019t wearing a dress,\u201d she said of her decision.<\/p>\n

However it seemed her\u00a0sister\u00a0took offense at the situation, having a bridal breakdown over her sister\u2019s choice of attire: \u201cShe said that I stole the attention away from her, but I honestly didn\u2019t because I didn\u2019t stand out at all. I was wearing a plain shirt and black pants and I blended in with other people. I didn\u2019t mean to upset her though, I honestly thought it would be ok.\u201d<\/p>\n

After taking to\u00a0Reddit\u00a0to see what readers thought of her wearing white on the night, she was reassured to know most were on her side: \u201cNobody is going to mistake a woman in a white shirt and black pants for the bride,\u201d said one. \u201cI think the whole \u2018you wore white-how dare you\u2019 thing is a red herring. Your sister is upset because the dress code was \u2018formal\u2019 and you were dressed like all the men. Your sister obviously expected to see you in a dress, or at least a fancy formal pantsuit, and you didn\u2019t comply.\u201d<\/p>\n

One reader left a cheeky comment, saying: \u201cSounds like you\u2019re closer to being mistaken for a waiter than a bride,\u201d while another commented: \u201cFormal is formal regardless of if it\u2019s made for men or women. As long as it fits and it fits the bill (suit, dress, etc).\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSince you said there were other men in button-ups and slacks, without jacketed suits, I think that\u2019s totally fine,\u201d said one reader, before adding: \u201cI hate the passive-aggressive cold-shoulder. So tired of people trying to push gendered clothing norms.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe knows how you dress,\u201d said one. \u201cA white dress shirt, same as all the men are wearing, is not taking attention away from a bride, and there\u2019s no way your style of dress was surprising to her. Weddings are getting really stupid. I\u2019m sorry you\u2019re dealing with this dumb bullsh*t.\u201d<\/p>\n
