Benzema was seen as the poster boy signing for the Saudi Pro League, leading an exodus of a number of high-profile players from Europe, and any potential exit would have to be authorised by not only Al Ittihad coach Marcelo Gallardo and sporting director Roman Planes, but also Saudi Arabia\u2019s Ministry of Sport.<\/p>\n<p>Benzema has not communicated to Al Ittihad that he is unhappy and seeking an exit,\u00a0<em>90min<\/em>\u00a0further understands, but that hasn\u2019t stopped the rumour mill from spinning after he returned to training late from a holiday in Mauritius.<\/p>\n<p>Reports in France\u00a0claimed on Tuesday that Benzema had demanded a \u2018temporary\u2019 exit from Al Ittihad, while leading Spanish publication\u00a0<em>Marca<\/em>\u00a0reported that a meeting was due to be held with the club\u2019s hierarchy after Manchester United and Arsenal expressed an interest in signing him.<\/p>\n<p>Former club Lyon are also said to be in the mix for Benzema, who scored 354 goals in a trophy-laden 14 years at Real Madrid, but it\u2019s a potential switch to the\u00a0Premier League\u00a0that has whetted the appetites of those wanting to see the Frenchman try his hand in England.<\/p>\n<p>Benzema has now moved to shut down talk of a potential exit, telling\u00a0<em>L\u2019Equipe<\/em>: \u201cIt\u2019s completely false! The French media don\u2019t know what to invent any more. The bigger the better.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/01hmy5dwr6rabyqhhqav.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Karim Benzema\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Karim Benzema won it all at Real Madrid \/ Quality Sport Images\/GettyImages<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>Benzema\u2019s astronomical pay packet would further complicate matters \u2013 Jordan Henderson ended up\u00a0terminating his contract at Al Ettifaq so that he could join Ajax\u00a0\u2013 but he would undoubtedly aid the Premier League duo as they seek to bolster their goalscoring options.<\/p>\n<p>United are struggling in the Premier League, sitting eighth in the table after losing nine of their 21 games, and they have scored just 24 goals. Rasmus Hojlund has played well in flashes but Marcus Rashford has struggled and Anthony Martial has been non-existent from a goalscoring perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Arsenal, meanwhile, are clinging on to Premier League title aspirations, but they too have had trouble finding the back of the net. Saturday\u2019s 5-0 win over Crystal Palace bucked the trend \u2013 emphatically putting to bed back-to-back defeats to West Ham United and Fulham \u2013 but Gabriel Jesus has scored just three times in the competition and Bukayo Saka is the Gunners\u2019 top scorer on six.<\/p>\n<p>Benzema has scored nine goals and contributed five assists in 15 appearances for Al Ittihad, but they are well off the pace in the\u00a0Saudi Pro League\u00a0title race.
