{"id":142367,"date":"2024-01-23T15:06:44","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T15:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/23\/wike-to-ban-unpainted-taxis-buses-in-fct-build-terminals-in-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-01-23T15:06:44","modified_gmt":"2024-01-23T15:06:44","slug":"wike-to-ban-unpainted-taxis-buses-in-fct-build-terminals-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/23\/wike-to-ban-unpainted-taxis-buses-in-fct-build-terminals-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Wike To Ban Unpainted Taxis, Buses In FCT, Build Terminals In 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_854193\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-854193\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-854193\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Nyesom-Wike.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"352\"  \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-854193\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nyesom Wike<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has informed that the FCT Administration will soon ban unpainted taxis and buses from plying roads in the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n<p>Wike, who disclosed this during a media chat in Abuja, explained that the move was to address the incidence of \u2018one chance\u2019 in the city.<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging that the menace of one chance had been curtailed, he added that stricter measures were necessary to end the trend in the FCT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not going to allow vehicles that are not painted with FCT colour and registered by the FCTA to ply commercial in the territory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat way, you know the driver is certified by the FCT and the buses and the taxes were also approved by the FCT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen this is done, you as the passenger will not take the risk of going to enter any vehicle that you don\u2019t even know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Wike added that Uber operators would also need to register to operate in Abuja, so that the government would know their identities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO: \u201cDont Exploit FCT Insecurity For Political Gains \u2013 Wike Warns<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He also said that the drivers needed to be certified and profiled by the security agencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a city, if you don\u2019t have rules, there will be problems,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister expressed concern that the FCT did not have an official terminal where residents can go and board a bus to a specific destination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat way, you know the drivers and the vehicle that you are entering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut currently, everybody is just on the road. You are going to Nyanya, a car is on the road, you enter; you are going to Wuye, a car is on the road you enter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we are trying to do in the 2024 fiscal year is to at least build three terminals for a start, so that we will know the buses and taxis that will carry people from such terminals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen this is done nobody will take the risk of going on the road to wave for a taxi.
