The Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrews, Founder and flag bearer of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), has declared his intention to choose a woman as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 General Election.<\/strong><\/p>\n In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Rev. Andrews expressed his confidence in the capabilities of women to bring about positive change and hopes that having a female running mate will enhance his chances in the December 7 polls.<\/p>\n Founder of the Life Assembly Worship Centre, commonly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, Rev. Andrews specified his preference for a running mate from the Western Region.<\/p>\n Despite being Ashanti himself, he emphasized the importance of the candidate being a woman. He tasked his officers with finding a suitable nominee for consideration.<\/p>\n \u201cI am an Ashanti and this time I would prefer my candidate to come from the Western Region. The person can come from any other region, but it will be a woman.<\/p>\n \u201cI have tasked my officers to search for a suitable person and nominate her for my consideration,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n GUM made waves in the 2020 presidential election, securing the third position ahead of traditional parties like the Convention People\u2019s Party, People\u2019s National Convention, and the Progressive People\u2019s Party.<\/p>\n With 105,548 votes, representing 0.805% of the total ballots cast, Rev. Andrews aims to build on the party\u2019s achievements.<\/p>\n The party plans to continue its door-to-door campaign strategy, mobilizing voters nationwide.<\/p>\n Nominations for parliamentary aspirants will open in March. Rev. Andrews stressed that GUM is committed to avoiding the distribution of money to voters, expressing concern over the monetization of Ghana\u2019s political processes.<\/p>\n Rev. Andrews outlined the party\u2019s focus on job creation, with plans to revive defunct factories built by Ghana\u2019s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The manifesto will detail a roadmap for achieving this goal, along with the establishment of factories in every region and the operation of a free port to boost economic activities.<\/p>\n Addressing concerns about currency reliance, Rev. Andrews proposed a system of barter arrangements with international trade partners to reduce or eliminate dependence on foreign currencies. The party\u2019s manifesto will also feature policies such as monthly stipends for the elderly and children.<\/p>\n
