Guro Reiten admits her obsession with football has fuelled her journey to the top of the game.

The Chelsea winger has won the Women’s Super League title in each of her four seasons since signing for the Blues, aiming to stretch that sequence to five this term.

And she believes her upbringing in Norway laid the platform for her successful career.

Reiten told the official Chelsea website: “I’m from a very small place and football was what we were all doing.

“I remember when we got a break at school, I was the first one out on the pitch. We only had 10 minutes to play a game, so we had to be quick.

“Then after school, it was the same. Always playing. Our parents would have to come and get us home to eat dinner and go to bed. For me, fun was just hanging out with my friends and playing football.”

Reiten credits her mother’s motivational powers as another driving force.

The 29-year-old, who signed a new contract last month, left her family and friends behind to pursue glory in England but has not forgotten their commitment to her career.

She said: “My parents’ support meant everything.

“They drove to every game and they still watch every game that I play. I get the best feedback but sometimes it’s the hardest.

“My mum is the tough one. She is very honest and if I haven’t played great then I need a bit of time before I call her because I might not like what she is going to say.

“Living away from my friends and family, it’s a busy schedule when I do go home.

“The most important thing to me is spending time with them.”

Reiten will hope to feature for Chelsea as they aim to maintain their lead at the top of the WSL table against Manchester United on Sunday.

‘I have a lot of photos of me in goal, but now I’m not tall enough I don’t think!’ 😂@Guro_Reiten reflects on her early footballing memories in our latest edition of The Making of Me. 📖

— Chelsea FC Women (@ChelseaFCW) January 16, 2024

!["Guro]("https://www.ghanamma.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/d1c91632-0dfb-46d3-bafb-5d844ba195a4.jpg")
