AS Roma have announced that manager Jose Mourinho and his staff have left the club.<\/strong><\/p>\nMourinho took charge of Roma ahead of the 2021\/22 season and led them to Europa Conference League glory during his first campaign, while they finished as runners-up to Sevilla in the Europa League last term, losing the final on penalties.<\/p>\n
But after a dismal first half to the 2023\/24 season which has left them ninth in the Serie A table after 20 games,\u00a0Roma\u00a0have decided to part ways with Mourinho, confirming his sacking in a statement on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
The statement read: \u201cAS Roma announces that Jose Mourinho and his technical collaborators will leave the Club with immediate effect.<\/p>\n
\u201cMourinho was announced as the sixtieth manager in Roma\u2019s history in May 2021.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe led the team to win the Conference League in Tirana on 25 May 2022 and to the Europa League final in Budapest last season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin added: \u201cWe thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for the passion and commitment he has shown since his arrival in the Giallorossi.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will always have great memories of his stewardship, but we believe that, in the best interests of the Club, immediate change is necessary.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wish Jose and his collaborators the best for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mourinho reached an agreement to join Roma in May 2021, less than one month after he had been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur.<\/p>\n
Prior to a one-and-a-half year stint at Spurs, Mourinho spent two-and-a-half seasons with Manchester United, notably winning three trophies during his first campaign and leading them to a second-placed Premier League finish the year after.<\/p>\n
During his prime, Mourinho led Porto to an unlikely Champions League victory in 2004, won three Premier League titles across two stints with Chelsea, conquered Europe once more with Inter and toppled Pep Guardiola\u2019s Barcelona in La Liga with Real Madrid.<\/p>\n
