{"id":139277,"date":"2024-01-15T15:15:47","date_gmt":"2024-01-15T15:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/15\/erik-ten-hag-warns-man-utd-need-to-grow-up-after-tottenham-draw\/"},"modified":"2024-01-15T15:15:47","modified_gmt":"2024-01-15T15:15:47","slug":"erik-ten-hag-warns-man-utd-need-to-grow-up-after-tottenham-draw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/15\/erik-ten-hag-warns-man-utd-need-to-grow-up-after-tottenham-draw\/","title":{"rendered":"Erik ten Hag warns Man Utd need to \u2018grow up\u2019 after Tottenham draw \u2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Erik ten Hag has called on his Manchester United players to \u201cgrow up\u201d after conceding \u201ctwo soft goals\u201d in the draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Goals from under-performing offensive duo Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford gave the Red Devils the lead on two separate occasions during the\u00a02-2 draw at Old Trafford, however Ten Hag\u2019s side were pegged back both times by Richarlison in the first half and then Rodrigo Bentancur at the start of the second.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to\u00a0<em>Sky Sports\u00a0<\/em>after the game, manager Ten Hag admitted that he was disappointed with how\u00a0Man Utd\u00a0conceded the goals, calling on his team to be \u201cmore physical\u201d in the defensive third in future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Sir Jim Ratcliffe] will have seen a team fighting for each other and trying to get a win,\u201d said Ten Hag about the incoming owner\u2019s first appearance at Old Trafford. \u201cHe has seen two great goals on our side and also what he should have noticed is we should be more man when we have to defend corners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to grow up and be more physical, head the ball away. That shouldn\u2019t happen. And the second [Spurs goal, from a break] was a \u00adtypical one. We know the quick releases and then we allow them a diagonal pass and with one diagonal pass they break our whole team and that can\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/01hm6czsjye8my9pvarj.jpg\" alt=\"Richarlison\" title=\"Richarlison\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>One of the goals Man Utd conceded \/ Robbie Jay Barratt \u2013 AMA\/GettyImages<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>\u201cI am quite disappointed. When you go ahead twice and then concede two soft goals it is a bit frustrating, but you have to take it as it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ten Hag was also keen to point out the positives that Man Utd can take from the draw with Spurs, highlighting the combination play between Rashford and Hojlund in particular.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have seen glimpses [of Rashford being back to his best]. The co-operation with Hojlund is growing,\u201d said Ten Hag.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first goal was prepared by Rashford for Hojlund. He also scored a very good goal, so I\u2019m pleased with that. We are improving and we\u2019ve seen a glimpse of the future with [Alejandro] Garnacho, [Kobbie] Mainoo, Hojlund of course. I\u2019m very pleased players are returning, like [Lautaro] Martinez, Casemiro and [Luke] Shaw.
