{"id":138298,"date":"2024-01-12T11:38:06","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T11:38:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/12\/corruption-has-broken-loose-under-akufo-addos-government-mahama\/"},"modified":"2024-01-12T11:38:06","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T11:38:06","slug":"corruption-has-broken-loose-under-akufo-addos-government-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/12\/corruption-has-broken-loose-under-akufo-addos-government-mahama\/","title":{"rendered":"Corruption has broken loose under Akufo-Addo&#8217;s government &#8211; Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                        \n\n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, John Mahama, has once again criticised the current administration of unbridled corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expressing his perspective, Mr Mahama remarked that corruption is rampant and unchecked, resembling an escaped entity running amok throughout the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his tour of the Volta region on Thursday, January 11, Mr Mahama asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot eliminate corruption, citing the involvement of its members in the malfeasance.<gwmw style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing the crowd in Tegbi, the former president pledged that his administration, if elected, would strive to eradicate corruption.<gwmw style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also cautioned party members holding positions of authority, emphasizing that he would not shield them if found guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow, corruption has broken loose and if it was in the IGP\u2019s custody, it has broken the jail and is running all over the country. It\u2019s obvious that the NPP has no desire or the ability to check corruption because their people are involved in the corruption, and they cannot deal with it.\u201d<gwmw style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo I have said if they [the NPP] can\u2019t deal with it when we come, we will deal with it for them. When the NDC comes, we will hold those who have misconducted themselves accountable. But I must also caution our people that those of us who go into positions of authority, if you also abuse your trust, I am not going to come and defend you.\u201d<gwmw style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are a listening party, and we believe that power is given to a political party or to leaders to come and serve us. We are not seeking power just to be arrogant and opulent in our attitude.
