{"id":137906,"date":"2024-01-11T14:22:40","date_gmt":"2024-01-11T14:22:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/11\/how-can-a-professor-say-review-means-cancellation-mahama-fires-dr-adutwum\/"},"modified":"2024-01-11T14:22:40","modified_gmt":"2024-01-11T14:22:40","slug":"how-can-a-professor-say-review-means-cancellation-mahama-fires-dr-adutwum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/11\/how-can-a-professor-say-review-means-cancellation-mahama-fires-dr-adutwum\/","title":{"rendered":"How can a professor say review means cancellation \u2013 Mahama \u2018fires\u2019 Dr Adutwum \u2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former President\u00a0John Dramani Mahama\u00a0has replied the Minister of Education, Dr\u00a0Yaw Osei Adutwum\u2019s, assertion that his (Mahama\u2019s) promise to review the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme means he would cancel it.<\/p>\n<p>Mahama, the flagbearer of the\u00a0National Democratic Congress\u00a0(NDC), said that he has no intention of cancelling the Free SHS programme but only wants to review its implementation so that it becomes beneficial to Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the programme in its current state is making parents pay more to keep their children in school compared to when it was not being implemented.<\/p>\n<p>The former president, who made these comments while answering a question on Dr Adutwum\u2019s interpretation of his promise at a panel discussion as part of the 75th Annual New Year School and Conference, at the University of Ghana, Legon, was bemused that someone of the minister\u2019s pedigree would same review is the same as cancellation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur colleagues would take advantage of that (his comment) so that even a professor would say his understanding of review means to cancel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody has an English dictionary or just google the word review. I have never seen any dictionary that interpreters review to mean to abolish,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cIt is part of the politics that we play. I think we should overcome that.
