{"id":137056,"date":"2024-01-08T03:42:56","date_gmt":"2024-01-08T03:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/08\/children-women-die-in-anambra-boat-mishap\/"},"modified":"2024-01-08T03:42:56","modified_gmt":"2024-01-08T03:42:56","slug":"children-women-die-in-anambra-boat-mishap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/01\/08\/children-women-die-in-anambra-boat-mishap\/","title":{"rendered":"Children, Women Die In Anambra Boat Mishap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>No fewer that five persons, including women and kids aboard an unidentified boat, reportedly died after a boat capsized on the River Niger.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the incident happened early on Sunday morning as passers-by were seen rescuing the victims out of the river near the Onitsha banks.<\/p>\n<p>INFORMATION NIGERIA reports that the passengers were said to be coming from Kogi State.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a source, who spoke with Daily Trust, today, said: \u201cEarly this morning, a boat that capsized on River Niger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the victims are from parts of Kogi State and Mmiata Anam in Anambra East Local Government Area, according to the eye witnesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the situation was under control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0Woman Dies, Two Injured As Bus Somersaults In Anambra Road Crash<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ikenga said:\u00a0\u201cThe situation is under control. Our marine operatives, on getting the distress call about the incident, responded swiftly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were able to rescue over 30 of the passengers alive and recovered the five lifeless bodies in the depths of the sea and the capsized boat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreliminary information revealed that the boat was from Kogi State, conveying goods and passengers before the unfortunate incident occurred.
