Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus, has ignited discussions with a daring request on his Facebook page. The newly elected independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central has expressed his willingness to join a political party in Parliament, but only if certain conditions are met.
In his post, A Plus revealed that he has challenged an unnamed political party to implement significant reforms before he considers joining their ranks. He specifically demands the resignation of three national officers from the party. While he did not disclose the party’s name, many speculate that he is referring to either the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the two leading political parties in Ghana.
According to parliamentary regulations, independent MPs in Ghana must choose to align with either the majority or minority caucus to facilitate effective governance. Currently, the NDC holds the majority, while the NPP is in the minority. A Plus’s choice to join either faction could significantly impact the power dynamics in the 9th Parliament.
In a humorous twist, A Plus mentioned that he had initially added a condition for him to be appointed Vice President of the United States but later decided to drop that, focusing solely on the resignation of the officers.
