Famous People Who Died in 2024

This year was marked with some sudden passing of some popular Ghanaians. Some of the popular people who died the year are as follows:

Akua Donkor

Akua was a popular political figure in Ghana. She was the first woman without a formal education to run for president in the country. Her death shook the whole country because nobody expected that at such a time when she was preparing for the presidential election. Akua Donkor was a strong woman and brought a lot of excitement in Ghanaian politics

Hon. Mark Wayongo

Mark Wayongo was a former interior minister under former president Mahama. He was also a former member of parliament for Navrongo. He retired from politics in 2016 after his party suffered a defeat in the presidential and parliamentary elections. Until his death, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Tamala-based radio station Diamond FM

The late John Ampontuah Kumah was the former member of parliament for Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti region. He was also the deputy finance under the Akufo-Addo administration. He died on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at age 45 after a brief illness. Reports indicate that during a visit to his constituency, his health deteriorated and an ambulance was arranged to send him to Accra. While on the way on Thursday [March 7, 2024], his condition became very critical and the ambulance diverted to the Suhum Government Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Actress Mercy Little Smith

Popular actress Mercy Little Smith also known as ‘Benyiwaa’ is dead. The announcement was first made on the Efiewura TV series Facebook page on December 18, 2024. The cause of death is currently unknown. Benyiwaa’s death came as a shock to many people especially those in the entertainment industry. In the popular Efiewura series, she played the role of a wife to Judge Koboo

Bright Owusu aka C Confion

The Ghanaian entertainment industry is in mourning following the sudden passing of Bright Owusu, popularly known as C Confion, a talented up-and-coming comedian. C Confion’s untimely demise on December 20, 2024, sent shock waves through the comedy community, leaving fans, colleagues, and friends devastated. He died after a short illness.

Vincent McCauley

The actor starred in multiple seasons of popular youth series, YOLO before his untimely demise. He passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024. Vincent McCauley. gained popularity for his role as Max in the popular ‘Things We Do For Love’ TV show. He contributed to a number of popular movies. Some of them are Games People Play, Fortune Island, Office Palava, Living With Trisha: House of Secrets, and The Idiot and I.

Naa Amanua Dodoo

Mary Naa Amanua Dodoo popularly known as Naa Amanua death threw the entertainment industry into a state of mourning. She was the lead female vocalist of the Ga Music group, Wulomei. In 2018, she earned a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. 

Osman Idris aka Yogot

On June 11, 2024, Osman Idris, also known as Yoghurt, who was a prominent actor in the well-known Junka Town films, passed away at the Great Faith Family Clinic in Effiakuma.

Kofi Owusu Dua Anto (KODA)

The popular gospel artiste and producer died after a short illness on April 21st. Kofi Owusu Dua Anto was noted for some popular hits like Nkwa Abodoo, Hosanna, Amen, Nyame ne wo. He was 45

Albert Jackson-Davis

Ghanaian veteran actor, Albert Davies died and the news of his passing was shared on Saturday September 14. He featured in several notable films, including Heritage Africa, The Storm and the popular comedy My Very Ghanaian Wedding.

She was a former member of parliament for the Hohoe Constituency in the Volta Region. She also served as a deputy minister of Environment, Science and Technology under the Mahama administration. According to reports, she died on Wednesday, 25th December, 2024. She was 70.
