Leading figures of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the Ashanti Region recently visited Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to express their support following the party’s defeat in the December 7, 2024, elections.
Among them was Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, who offered words of consolation grounded in faith, as reported by Ghanaweb.
In a widely circulated video, Chairman Wontumi drew upon biblical teachings to comfort Dr. Bawumia and party members, emphasizing the cyclical nature of joy and sorrow as ordained by God.
He stated, “This is the will of God; He knows why this happened. We can’t fight Him; we can’t do anything. We know that at the right time, He would make us happy for the sake of you and your running mate.”Â
Chairman Wontumi also commended Dr. Bawumia for selecting Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, from the Ashanti Region as his running mate, describing the choice as unprecedented and an honor to the region.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh acknowledged the pain of the electoral loss and praised Dr. Bawumia for meeting with party executives despite their shared disappointment.
He noted that such engagements are vital for the party’s reflection and future strategy.
This meeting highlights the NPP’s efforts to maintain unity and resilience in the face of electoral setbacks, with leaders turning to faith and regional solidarity as sources of strength during this period of transition.
