Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has refuted claims that he offered assistance to former President John Mahama’s ORAL team in recovering funds from the Power Distribution Services (PDS) deal as reported by Ghana Web.
In a statement, Agyarko labeled such reports as “false and malicious,” asserting that he has had no communication with Mahama or his team regarding this matter.
He emphasized, “I have not offered, nor do I intend to offer, any assistance to former President Mahama’s team concerning the PDS funds.”
Agyarko clarified that during his tenure as Energy Minister, he was not involved in the PDS transaction, as it occurred after his departure from the ministry.
He stated, “The PDS transaction was executed after my exit from the Ministry of Energy; I had no role in its negotiation or implementation.”
The former minister expressed concern over the spread of misinformation and urged the public to disregard such unfounded reports.
He warned, “These fabrications are attempts to tarnish my reputation; I advise the public to treat them with the contempt they deserve.”
Agyarko also mentioned that he is considering legal action against those perpetuating these falsehoods.
He noted, “My legal team is reviewing the situation, and we will not hesitate to take appropriate action against individuals or entities spreading these lies.”
Boakye Agyarko reiterated his commitment to serving Ghana with integrity and transparency. He affirmed, “My focus remains on contributing positively to the development of our nation, and I will not be distracted by baseless allegations.”
The PDS deal, which involved the management of Ghana’s electricity distribution, has been a subject of controversy since its inception.
The government terminated the concession agreement, citing fundamental and material breaches. Agyarko’s statement aims to distance himself from any involvement in the deal and to address the misinformation surrounding his alleged offer to assist in recovering funds.
