Actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has opened up about the doubts many had regarding his candidacy in the 2024 general elections.
According to MyNewsGH on Sunday, December 22, 2024, Dumelo revealed that several people initially wrote him off, questioning his ability to lead the constituency.
“Many people didn’t believe I could win the seat,” Dumelo shared, referencing the 2020 election and the skepticism surrounding his political debut.
Critics argued that Ayawaso West Wugon deserved a representative with a different profile, with some pointing to Dumelo’s background in acting as a disqualification for the role.
Despite the early criticisms, Dumelo remained resilient, drawing from his experience of losing the 2020 election.
He emphasized how failure had been a valuable teacher, saying, “Failure gives you experience and that experience is what you can use to win the seat.”
His 2020 defeat, which came by a narrow margin, only fueled his determination for a comeback in 2024.
Now, facing an even greater challenge, Dumelo acknowledges the pressure of his victory margin—13,000 votes—while expressing his commitment to building on his achievements.
“I need to make sure I consolidate this to make Ayawaso West Wugon great again,” he said. Dumelo has expressed his intent to surpass the achievements of his predecessors in the constituency.
Dumelo also took a moment to thank his wife for her unwavering support throughout his campaign.
