The Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Paul Twum Berimah, has dismissed claims that Kennedy Agyapong, the former NPP presidential candidate, is responsible for the party’s loss in the 2024 elections as reported by Ghana Web on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
According to Berimah, the reasons behind voters’ decisions were multifaceted, and Agyapong should not be held accountable for the outcome.
Berimah pointed out that while Agyapong made remarks suggesting the NPP would struggle to “break the eight,” he later threw his full support behind the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Ken is a man of his word. If he won’t do something, he won’t. But in this case, he came back to support the party,” Berimah emphasized during an interview on Oyerepa TV on December 20, 2024.
Berimah further stressed that voters’ choices were influenced by a variety of factors, including local issues such as infrastructure, which played a role in shaping their preferences.
He insisted that Agyapong’s involvement in the campaign, including his support for Bawumia, should not be blamed for the NPP’s defeat.
The 2024 election saw John Mahama, the candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), declared the winner by the Electoral Commission on December 9, 2024.
Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, while Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s candidate, received 4,657,304 votes. The NDC also made significant gains, securing a majority in Parliament
