Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has issued a strong warning to Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, cautioning him of potential legal consequences if he fails to present the 2025 mini-budget to Parliament.
According to a report by MyJoyOnline on Thursday, December 19, 2024, this warning comes amidst concerns over the Finance Minister’s repeated absence from parliamentary sessions.
Addressing Parliament on December 19, Dr. Forson criticized the Finance Minister for failing to resolve the budget for the first quarter of the upcoming year.
He emphasized the constitutional and legal obligations tied to presenting the mini-budget.
“There are severe penalties for not doing this, including a jail term,” Dr. Forson stated, urging the Minister to adhere to the provisions of the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act.
Dr. Amin Adam’s absence, spanning four consecutive days, has sparked outrage among legislators and the public, who perceive it as a disregard for the nation’s economic challenges.
The Minority Leader further appealed to the Speaker of Parliament to intervene and compel the Minister to fulfill his duties.
