Veteran journalist and social commentator Kwesi Pratt has expressed strong disapproval of the last-minute appointments and promotions made by President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
According to Modern Ghana on Thursday, December 19, 2024, Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, Pratt described the actions as “sad” and “unacceptable,” pointing out the repetition of practices that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) had previously condemned.
Pratt referenced a strong critique made in 2017 by former Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo, who had warned against such late-term appointments. Osafo-Maafo had argued that these actions were detrimental to good governance, a point that Pratt echoed.
“It’s frustrating because I remember very clearly when Yaw Osafo-Maafo criticized these same practices,” he said, expressing his dismay at the recurrence of the issue.
The timing of these appointments has sparked widespread debate. Critics have raised concerns about the lack of transparency and due process, questioning the motives behind the sudden changes.
Pratt himself also expressed confusion about the rationale for such appointments, stating, “It’s true the President is still in charge until January 7, but some of these things are frustrating.”
The latest round of appointments has ignited further controversy, with many wondering how these last-minute actions might affect governance moving forward.
