A National Democratic Congress (NDC) national executive has stressed that the party’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) is a concentrated attempt to recover state resources that were illegally obtained by people who are unable to explain their unexpected wealth while serving in government or the state, rather than a witch hunt aimed at innocent people. During an exclusive interview with Julius Caesar Anadem on Kumasi’s Ultimate 106.9 FM, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, reaffirmed the party’s resolve to bring those who embezzle state funds accountable. He said that he would support a step that would serve as a deterrence to both active and retired politicians, even if it meant taking away President Nana Akufo-Addo’s immunity in order to ensure responsibility.
People are aware that I am a firm individual. To be clear, however, I will stand up for what is right, regardless of who is being wrongfully targeted by my government. However, let me add this: Mr. Gbande said that he will help this country retrieve what has been stolen, even if it means taking away President Akufo-Addo’s immunity. He added that under the current government, no one involved in corruption would be permitted to leave the nation.”No one is fleeing this country, his ministers.I have been informed that Wontumi has fled, which is why I am in Kumasi in search of him. He rejected the idea that we would start arresting them while they were still under their own government.
In closing, Mr. Gbande emphasized how keen Ghanaians are for ORAL to be implemented successfully. Operation Recover All Loot is among the top priorities Ghanaians have for the incoming NDC government. “Ghanaians will be satisfied with us even if we don’t build roads or take on new projects as long as we restore what the current government has stolen.”
