Former NPP MP Accuses President Akufo-Addo of Destroying the Party
A former Member of Parliament (MP) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of undermining the unity and electoral fortunes of the party. In a recent statement, the ex-MP claimed that the president’s leadership style and key decisions have deepened divisions within the party, jeopardizing its chances in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The former legislator pointed to growing factionalism, a lack of inclusiveness, and alleged favoritism in appointments as major issues fueling discontent among party members. He also criticized the government’s handling of the economy, which has faced significant challenges, including high inflation and a weakened currency, arguing that these have tarnished the party’s reputation among voters.
“The president’s actions have alienated grassroots supporters and created mistrust among senior party officials,” the former MP said. He urged the party’s leadership to take urgent steps to restore unity and reconnect with its base ahead of the elections.
This criticism adds to a series of internal grievances expressed by some NPP members as the party prepares to elect a flagbearer to succeed President Akufo-Addo. Analysts warn that without swift reconciliation, these divisions could weaken the NPP’s ability to retain power in 2024.
