I’ll Lead A Naked Demonstration if Mahama Retains Dampare As IGP

Ghanaian media personality, Oheneba Boamah, has stirred controversy with a bold declaration to lead a naked demonstration if former President and President-elect John Dramani Mahama reappoints George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in 2025. His remarks have sparked debate over political lobbying and the future of Ghana’s police leadership.

Speaking on his platform, Boamah accused certain individuals of lobbying for key positions in Mahama’s incoming administration using unscrupulous means. He singled out IGP Dampare, alleging that he is maneuvering to retain his position despite being unfit for the role.

“Some people have started lobbying for positions from President John Mahama using back doors,” Boamah claimed. “The time we were at war, they were relaxing and behaving like professionals. They said they didn’t want to have issues with the war at hand. If you get any position from John Mahama, it doesn’t pain anyone, especially IGP Dampare. He is using back doors to maintain his IGP position, but it will not work.”

The outspoken media figure went further, accusing Dampare of harboring unresolved issues and describing him as a “dangerous politician.” He warned Mahama against retaining Dampare, suggesting that it would displease many police officers.

“If John Mahama appoints you as IGP, I swear I will lead a naked demonstration against you,” he vowed. “This is because you have issues that we need to look into. One of the most dangerous politicians in this country is IGP Dampare. President Mahama, I’m begging you, sack Dampare to go home early. If you have any IGP to sack, then it’s Dampare. This will make the policemen and women happy.”

Oheneba Boamah’s comments highlight lingering tensions within Ghana’s political and security sectors. While Dampare has been praised by many for his professional approach to policing, he has also faced criticism from certain quarters.

As Ghana prepares for a transition of power, questions over key appointments like that of the IGP are expected to dominate discussions. Whether Mahama will retain Dampare or appoint a new police chief remains to be seen, but Boamah’s fiery remarks have undoubtedly set the tone for what could be a contentious decision.
