Prominent and voiciferous member of the New Patriotic Party’s communication team, P. K Sarpong has issued an apology to his followers and the New Patriotic Party supporters for an earlier post falsely claiming the party’s victory in the Tano South Parliamentary race. In a candidate statement shared on his Facebook page, PK Sarpong acknowledged that his initial report was inaccurate and revealed that the NPP had, in fact, lost the seat.
“Guys, sorry to break this devastating news to you. Contrary to the post I made earlier concerning we winning the Tano South seat, the collation has been done and we lost it. I will pull down the earlier post. Sad but true” he wrote.
The admission of his misleading post comes as a disappointment for the NPP supporters who were initially buoyed by the earlier announcement of victory in the constituency. Dr Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, who was the member of parliament and candidate for the New Patriotic Party, was unable to retain his seat for the party in a tightly contested race.
Sarpong’s prompt apology and decision to retract the erroneous post have drawn mixed reactions online. While some commended him for his honesty and transparency, others expressed frustration over the premature declaration of victory, urging parties to be more cautious in dissemination of elections results.
The loss of the Tano South seat marks a setback for the NPP in it’s bid to hold majority in parliament in the elections.
