Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has criticized Alan Kyerematen, founder of the Movement for Change, for his reaction to former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer as reported by Ghana Web on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
Speaking on Peace FM on November 22, 2024, Boadu asserted that Kyerematen, having left the NPP, lacks the standing to critique Kufuor’s support for Bawumia. “Kufuor is not the one who advised us to vote for Bawumia.
He saw that Bawumia is the right person to lead the country based on how the world is changing. I see no reason why Alan should get angry,” Boadu stated.
Boadu further questioned the logic behind Kyerematen’s disappointment, emphasizing that Kufuor’s endorsement was based on Bawumia’s qualifications and vision.
“What is the logic behind it in the first place? So he wanted Kufuor to say that Bawumia is our presidential candidate based on what he has done for the party, or someone else’s contributions?” he queried.
The endorsement of Bawumia by Kufuor has been a significant moment in the NPP’s internal politics, with various reactions across party lines.
However, Boadu believes Kyerematen’s frustration is misplaced, particularly given his current status outside the party.
