Labour Ministry calls for stakeholder collaboration to unlock Ghana’s green economy potential

The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has urged stakeholders to collaborate with the Ministry to unlock the green economy’s potential and create a sustainable future for Ghana.

A green economy is an economy that aims at reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities, and that aims for sustainable development without degrading the environment.

The Ministry emphasised the immense opportunities for job creation within the green economy, provided that appropriate policies and skills development initiatives are implemented.

Speaking at a multi-stakeholder forum to officially launch the EU-Ghana Pact for Skills and Jobs initiative, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Kizito Ballans, highlighted the Integrated Action on Green Jobs and Skills project.

The project aims to boost decent employment opportunities, particularly in the digital and green sectors.

“We can only maximise the potential of merging green and circular economy through skill development in the value change. Given this, component two of the strategy focuses on green jobs and green skills development. Without the skills, it will be difficult to take advantage of the opportunity provided by green technology and innovation.”

“Today we are happy to collaborate with the ILO and the EU to kick-start the integration of green jobs and skill project of a projection which aims to boost decent employment for all with a special focus on digital and green sectors in Ghana. The ministry will continue to play its role in ensuring that green job interventions are effectively coordinated and harmonised to support green enterprise development in sectors that hold a lot of potential for the generation of decent job opportunities. The project will enhance the policy coordination and development capacity rule of the ministry on green jobs.”
