Health workers at the Nankese Health Centre in Ghana’s Eastern Region are urging the government to assist in completing an expansion of their facility.
The health center, which serves 17 communities within the Suhum Municipality, faces challenges due to limited medical equipment and insufficient space to provide adequate patient care.

The community of Nankese in Ghana’s Eastern Region struggles with various issues, including poor road conditions and limited access to clean water.
Adding to these difficulties, the community’s health services are stretched thin. The Nankese Health Centre, which serves as a critical healthcare provider for the area, is hampered by understaffing, a shortage of medical equipment, and a lack of sufficient space for patient care.
These limitations not only impact the quality of care for residents but also create difficult working conditions for healthcare staff.
Linda Yeboah, a nurse at the facility, highlights the need for essential medical equipment and proper housing for resident nurses.

The extension project, intended to upgrade the Nankese Health Centre, has been stalled for over a decade.

Benedicta Baidoo, the Physician Assistant in charge of the facility, emphasizes how the delay affects healthcare services.
She appeals to the government and NGOs to step in and help address these critical needs.
