Nigerian Chef overthrows Ghana’s chef Faila as she cooks for 228 hours nonstop

In a culinary feat that combines skill, endurance, and community spirit, Nigerian Chef Beauty Obasuyi who’s currently based in Canada, is in the midst of an 18-day cooking marathon to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual).

The ambitious endeavour, streamed live on her YouTube channel, is happening inside her restaurant, Naija Jollof, to surpass the existing record of 119 hours held by Irish chef Alan Fisher.

Originally, she planned an eight-day cook-a-thon but was prompted to extend her marathon after hearing news of Chef Faila’s impressive 227-hour cooking marathon.

Determined to secure the title, Obasuyi was then forced to extend her cook-a-thon attempt to a formidable 18 consecutive days of non-stop cooking.

As of Friday at 12:30 p.m., Obasuyi had surpassed a staggering 228-hour mark, captivating online audiences with her culinary prowess and dedication to breaking the record.

Today, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, Chef Failatu Abdul Razak, the skilled chef from Ghana, has completed her extraordinary journey to shatter the current Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.

Fondly known as Chef Faila, she dedicated an astounding 227 hours and 2 seconds to this culinary challenge, commencing on Monday, January 1, 2024, and reaching its conclusion today.

As the first Ghanaian to undertake such a remarkable task, Chef Faila has become a source of immense pride for her nation. In a fitting grand finale, she concluded her endeavour by joyfully singing Ghana’s National Anthem, “God Bless Our Homeland, Ghana.”

Faila ends cookathon at 226 hours

The grand finale of Chef Faila’s cook-a-thon at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale has become a viral sensation on social media.

One of the standout moments was when the chef paid tribute to the Ghana Armed Forces, who have been unwavering in their support, by saluting them during the national anthem.

After the anthem, her husband, Lieutenant Reginald Ofosuhene Adjei, a member of the 69th Airborne Force of the Ghana Armed Forces, warmly embraced her.

Overwhelmed with happiness, Chef Faila left her kitchen to embrace the soldiers and her loyal supporters, tears streaming down her face.

It was an incredibly emotional scene, with many Ghanaians who have been by her side since the beginning also shedding tears while others joyfully sang and danced.
