According to reports, some Ghanaian fans whom the government took to the Ivory Coast for the 2023 AFCON received $400 as compensation for threatening to return home.
A report from Citi Sports says that the payment was made after the fans said they would go home because the organizing bodies weren’t working together or helping them.
The report said that the more than 300 fans who had come to the Ivory Coast to cheer on the Black Stars felt ignored.

A journalist who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that officials met with the angry fans and paid them to stay in Ivory Coast and keep cheering for the national team.
“There is good news. Yesterday after the story broke, around midnight, in fact, most of us here went to sleep before the officials came and they came to call us and they gave us what we were due,” the journalist is quoted as saying by Citi Sports.
“I am not aware but what I do know from some of the dwellers [from other hotels] is that they also received $400 as those at the hotel [I am] received.
“For the entire tournament officials were unable to tell us, so we don’t know if this [$400] is going to be for the entire tournament.”
Black Stars Vs Cape Verde in 2023 AFCON
The Black Stars lost to Cape Verde in their first game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last Sunday, which was disappointing.
The Black Stars didn’t play very well, and Jamiro Monteiro’s rebound put them behind after only 17 minutes.
The second half saw Ghana get back on track with a header from Alexandre Djiku. For a moment, it looked like it could be their night.
Late in the game, though, Cape Verde shocked them. Garry Rodrigues scored the game-winner by taking advantage of a mistake by the defence.
Hughton and his team have only won one of their last six games. On Thursday, they play Egypt in their second group game.

Black Stars to face Egypt on Thursday
After losing to Cape Verde in Ghana’s opening Group B encounter at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), some supporters are hoping for a better showing against Egypt on Thursday.
Cape Verde defeated Ghana 2-1 last Sunday to top the standings with three points, while Ghana remained last.
Egypt and Mozambique are second and third with a point apiece following their thrilling two-all draw in the other Group B match.
Unaffected by the loss, several Ghanaian supporters in Abidjan are hoping for a huge comeback against Egypt to advance to the next round.
The national team normally starts tournaments slowly, but they think the Black Stars can beat the Pharaohs on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 8:00pm.
