‘Wasa dodo’ – Ghanaians call for the immediate sack of Chris Hughton following Blackstars’ defeat against Cape Verde

The aftermath of Ghana’s disappointing AFCON 2023 opener against Cape Verde has triggered a wave of discontent among Ghanaians, particularly aimed at Coach Chris Hughton.

Fans across social media platforms are fervently calling for the 65-year-old coach’s dismissal, labelling him tactically bankrupt and questioning his suitability for the job.

Expectations were high as the Black Stars took on Cape Verde, but the 2-1 loss has ignited a firestorm of criticism directed at Coach Chris Hughton.

Angry Ghanaians, dissatisfied with the team’s performance, have flooded the internet with demands for Hughton’s immediate sack.

The sentiment among critics is that Hughton, despite his extensive experience, has failed to deliver the strategic prowess needed to guide the team to success.

Calls for his sacking have reached a fever pitch, with some fans expressing frustration that Ghana should not settle for mediocrity, especially when compared to the performances of previous coaches such as CK Akonnor and Kwasi Appiah.

The dissatisfaction is not limited to the outcome of a single match; it extends to what many perceive as a consistent lack of strategic acumen displayed by Hughton.

The demand for his removal, even if the team manages to secure victory in the tournament, underscores the urgency felt by fans who believe a change in leadership is necessary for the Black Stars to achieve their aspirations.

Critics have argued that Hughton’s tenure has not demonstrated significant improvement over his predecessors, raising questions about how he can seemingly evade accountability for perceived ineptitude.

The prevailing sentiment is that Ghana should not settle for a coach who fails to surpass the achievements of past leaders, especially when the team’s performance is below par.
