A recent post by Liza Abagrey, a member of the NPP, has ignited controversy surrounding the Loyal Ladies, a volunteer group linked to the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Abagrey’s account raises serious questions about the integrity of this organization.
In her post, Abagrey recounts a phone call she received in 2018 from Inyass Idrisu Bawumia. He informed her that a “big man” from the national party was scheduled to visit the North and suggested she might need to take care of him. What followed left her bewildered. The conversation implied that she would be expected to “service” this man and share a portion of any money earned.
Confused and uncomfortable, Abagrey was on a loudspeaker call with a friend, who urged her to accept the opportunity. However, she firmly refused, stating, “I’m not a pimp.” According to her, it was at this point that she lost all respect for the Loyal Ladies, recognizing that while some members may be innocent or unaware, the group’s practices were deeply troubling.
Abagrey also revealed that she turned down an offer to become a regional coordinator, believing it would involve similar exploitation. She acknowledged that the Loyal Ladies are one of the NPP’s most vibrant volunteer groups and could be a significant asset if managed properly. However, the current allegations cast a shadow over their reputation.
In the Facebook post, she revealed: “In relation to the recent slander on Loyal Ladies, one early morning around 2018, Inyass lddrisu Bawumia called me and said they called him from national to give one detail of a Loyal Lady member in the North so he wanted to give my details out. I told him but I’m not a member of Loyal Ladies. He said, ‘but you’re a dedicated and loyal member of the party. I’m sure there is an opportunity so you claim it.’ I said no problem.”
“Later that day I received a call from one of the top national managers of Loyal Ladies. She said, ‘a big man will be coming over the weekend to the North and as you know how we do it, take care of him and don’t forget my percentage.’ I was confused because I honestly didn’t understand.”
“Fortunately, I was with someone and the phone was on loudspeaker. I wanted to seek clarification from her but the person said I should tell her okay. As to how the person quickly understood the assignment, I don’t know. Apparently, she needed a Loyal Ladies’ member to ‘service’ a big man, take money and give her a percentage. The person I was seated with tried convincing me to give the opportunity to a certain lady who needs money desperately to pay her fees since I will certainly not do it (sad).”
“I didn’t give her anyway, because I’m not a pimp. That was where I lost utmost respect for Loyal Ladies, though some of its members may be innocent or ignorant. One time I was reached to be the coordinator for a region but I declined because I know I’ll be servicing big men and pimping girls as part of my job description. It is no doubt that Loyal Ladies is one of the most vibrant volunteer groups of NPP and could be of great asset to the party if managed well, but….issokay.”
