According to reports from GhanaWeb, Koku Anyidoho, the former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has lauded Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for covering the medical expenses of four-year-old Priscilla, who is battling leprosy.
In his remarks, Anyidoho emphasized that Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, deserves recognition for his commendable act.
He highlighted the vice president’s ongoing support for those in need, regardless of their religious affiliations.
Anyidoho also offered encouragement to Bawumia following his electoral defeat, stating that such a setback does not determine one’s entire life and that it is crucial to move forward.
On December 26, 2024, Anyidoho took to social media, expressing that true neighbors are those who assist during difficult times, irrespective of differing beliefs.
He noted the importance of continuing life despite electoral challenges.
Dr. Bawumia expressed immense joy when he received a visit from Priscilla, the girl he sponsored for treatment in Italy, on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024.
He shared on X that her visit was the greatest gift he received that Christmas.
He conveyed his gratitude for Priscilla’s successful surgery, which allowed her to walk again.
In his post, he reflected on the experience of meeting her again after her treatment, celebrating her recovery.
A video accompanying his post captured the touching moment of their reunion, showing Bawumia’s excitement as he embraced Priscilla.
The young girl, who was abandoned by her parents due to her condition, has been cared for by Rev. Father Andrew Campbell at the Weija Leprosarium.
Priscilla underwent amputation in Ghana after several unsuccessful treatment attempts. Recognizing her plight, Vice President Bawumia, who is a patron of Lepers Aid Ghana and a regular visitor to the leprosarium, decided to fund her medical journey to Italy.Â
After spending five months at a top facility for her procedure and recovery, Priscilla has returned to Ghana, joyfully walking once more.
