There is rising tension within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as members of the communications team voice concerns over alleged mismanagement of campaign funds during the 2024 general elections as per reports by Modern Ghana on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
These funds, intended to support the party’s outreach efforts, have reportedly gone unaccounted for, and several communicators are now demanding transparency.
Yaw Adomako Baafi, a former NPP Communications Director and a key member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, has spoken out about the neglect and poor treatment faced by the party’s communication team in the run-up to the election.
In an interview on Okay FM on December 23, 2024, he revealed that party communicators were sidelined, and their allowances were misused, adding fuel to the growing dissatisfaction within the ranks.
Baafi was particularly critical of Dr. Bawumia’s post-election remarks, where he attributed the NPP’s defeat to the lack of media support.
Baafi argued that the party’s communication resources were mishandled, contributing significantly to the loss.
He pointed out that while the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was paying the communication team up to GH₵1,000, those in the NPP were left empty-handed as funds were allegedly siphoned off by a few individuals.
He singled out Miracles Aboagye, Dr. Bawumia’s communication director, accusing him of failing to properly distribute campaign funds.
Baafi called for a thorough audit of the funds allocated to all 16 regions to determine how the resources were actually used, asserting that some members of the communication team were left unsupported, while others misused funds meant for party outreach.
