The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has issued a strong warning to Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Majority Leader, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), regarding alleged misconduct in Ghana’s recent parliamentary elections as reported by Citi News Room.
Speaking during the re-collation process at the Electoral Commission’s Greater Accra Regional office, Dafeamekpor vowed that accountability would follow if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumes power on January 7, 2025.
The controversy stems from the re-collation of results for nine contested parliamentary seats, seven of which were declared in favor of the NPP following a High Court ruling.
Dafeamekpor condemned the process, accusing the NPP of employing unethical methods to secure their wins.
He particularly targeted Afenyo-Markin, criticizing his public statements on the matter as misleading and disrespectful to the judicial process.
“When a matter is in court, don’t you respect the judicial process? Today [December 21], Afenyo is holding a press conference, praising the outcomes of exercises that are still pending before the Supreme Court.
And then he tells me to accept it in good faith because we are brothers. We are not brothers, Afenyo, we are not,” he stated during an interview with TV3.
Dafeamekpor accused the NPP of manipulating results to strengthen their parliamentary majority, warning that such actions would not go unchallenged under an NDC administration.
The South Dayi MP further declared that the NDC would demonstrate true political authority if they return to power. “When we take over, we will demonstrate where true power lies,” he vowed, signaling a shift in Ghana’s political dynamics.
The disputed results and subsequent re-collation have stirred tensions, with both parties raising concerns over fairness and transparency. Dafeamekpor’s comments highlight the ongoing political rift as Ghana prepares for a potential transition of power.
