We are not brothers, Afenyo-Markin Over Alleged Manipulation of EC’s Recollation Results

Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, has strongly condemned Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin following the Electoral Commission’s (EC) declaration of seven out of nine contested parliamentary seats in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Dafeamekpor, a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accused Afenyo-Markin and the NPP of manipulating the results for their political benefit.

In an interview with TV3 on December 21, as the recollation process continued at the EC’s Greater Accra regional office, Dafeamekpor expressed his frustration, asserting that the recollation lacked transparency. “Some of these lies, Afenyo should stop this conduct. He should stop fabricating stories to spice up his press conferences. Today he is telling us to cool down, but when he lost, did he cool down? He went to bring Fanteakwa North from Eastern Region to Tesano and got it declared for him,” Dafeamekpor alleged.

Dafeamekpor’s comments followed the EC’s confirmation that the NPP had won seven out of the nine contested parliamentary seats, a decision that has left the NDC dissatisfied. He argued that the process had been manipulated to favor the NPP, raising concerns about the credibility of the electoral process and questioning the integrity of the results.

The South Dayi MP also took issue with Afenyo-Markin’s calls for calm, accusing the Majority Leader of hypocrisy. “When a matter is in court, don’t you respect the court process? Today, Afenyo is granting a press conference, giving praises to an outcome of exercises that are still before the Supreme Court. And he is telling me to take it in good faith and that we are brothers. We are not brothers, Afenyo, we are not!” Dafeamekpor stated, visibly angered.

His remarks reflect growing dissatisfaction within the NDC over the handling of the recollation process, as tensions rise over the contested results. Dafeamekpor’s outburst highlights the deepening divisions within Ghana’s political landscape, with the opposition continuing to question the legitimacy of the election results and the actions of the EC.
