According to Kevin Taylor, CEO of Loud Silence Media, Asamoah Gyan’s political ties to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were the reason he refused to work with then-President John Dramani Mahama at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Taylor claims that President Mahama personally solicited Gyan’s mediation services amid the tournament’s contentious player allowance debate.
Gyan allegedly put the interests of the NPP ahead of those of the president and hence refused to meet with him, according to Taylor. “A whole president asked to speak with you, showing respect, but you foolishly turned that down because of petty politics,” Taylor said, criticising Gyan’s behaviour during the event.
Later that year, Taylor claimed that Asamoah Gyan sought President Mahama’s help, including the deployment of military resources, after Castro, a friend of Gyan’s, went missing in Ada for no apparent reason.
Concluding his statement, he raised doubts about Gyan’s latest statements of his separation from the NPP, drawing attention to inconsistencies in Gyan’s previous behaviour.
