Apostle Lilian Kumah, the widow of John Kumah, the late Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Ejisu in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, has dismissed widespread rumors suggesting her husband’s death was caused by food poisoning. She clarified that her husband succumbed to a severe blood-related illness he had been battling for over a year.
In an exclusive interview, Mrs. Kumah, who is also the General Overseer of Disciples of Christ Ministries, revealed that her husband was diagnosed with the illness in August 2023 during a medical examination in Germany. She emphasized that thorough medical checks conducted in both Germany and Ghana found no evidence of poisoning. She described claims of food poisoning, especially those made by broadcaster Captain Smart, as baseless and hurtful.
“Why should someone boldly claim to know the cause of my husband’s death without proof and still be allowed to walk free? This is unacceptable and only worsens our grief,” Mrs. Kumah lamented.
She recounted her husband’s resilience during his illness and his unwavering commitment to his duties, even in the face of deteriorating health. She detailed his final moments, including an emergency diversion to Suhum Government Hospital on March 7, 2024, where efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
Mrs. Kumah urged the public to respect her family’s privacy and to cease spreading false information. She reaffirmed that she possesses all medical reports verifying the actual cause of her husband’s death.
