In a video shared by the verified blogger EDHUB on X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, who served as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate in the 2024 general elections, has ignited discussions with his comments following the party’s loss.
Despite the NPP’s defeat, NAPO expressed pride in the performance of the Ashanti Region, emphasizing that the region had a remarkable 65% voter turnout. He highlighted that this figure was a significant contribution to the party’s efforts during the election. However, his comments have sparked renewed debate among Ghanaians, many of whom are questioning the NPP’s heavy reliance on the Ashanti Region for electoral success.
According to Ghana Web, NAPO also spoke out about the ongoing violence from some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following their victory. He compared the situation to similar incidents in 2009, when NDC supporters attacked institutions and even turned on each other. He called for calm and urged respect for democratic principles.
Additionally, NAPO commented on Ghana’s tendency to quickly forget its blessings, drawing a parallel to the biblical history of Israel, where people often forgot God’s goodness. Some interpreted this remark as a subtle critique of how Ghanaians have judged the NPP’s governance.
