The Possible NPP Challenger for 2028 Elections, Says Global InfoAnalytics Director

Following the just-ended general elections, which saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerge victorious in both the presidential and parliamentary races, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been relegated to opposition. The NDC’s resounding win, securing more than half of the seats in Parliament, has effectively handed them control for the next four years, with the NPP now tasked with regrouping, correcting its missteps, and preparing for a potential comeback in the 2028 elections.

According to Starr FM, in the wake of this political shift, much discussion has focused on who will lead the NPP in the next presidential race. While Vice President Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia’s name remains a prominent contender, a bold statement from Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has stirred fresh debate within Ghana’s political circles.

Dankwah has put forward the controversial opinion that Kennedy Agyapong, a long-serving Member of Parliament and influential businessman, is the only political figure capable of mounting a formidable challenge against both the NPP and former President John Dramani Mahama. According to Dankwah, Agyapong’s distinct persona and communication style give him a unique edge in Ghana’s political landscape.

Speaking in a recent interview, Dankwah argued that Agyapong’s unfiltered and sometimes combative communication style, his charisma, and his perceived independence from the political establishment make him a strong contender to challenge the traditional dominance of Mahama and the NPP’s leadership. He emphasized that Agyapong resonates deeply with ordinary Ghanaians, particularly those who feel disconnected from the mainstream political figures.

“Kennedy Agyapong is the only one capable of challenging both the NPP and Mahama. His outspokenness and authenticity set him apart, and many people see him as a refreshing alternative,” Dankwah stated.

This statement comes in the aftermath of the 2024 elections, where former President John Dramani Mahama’s victory has left the NPP in disarray. Dankwah’s analysis highlights the growing need for a new and dynamic leadership within the NPP and suggests that Agyapong’s rise could dramatically alter the political landscape of Ghana.
