Ghanaians have taken to social media to celebrate John Dumelo’s victory as the Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon in the 2024 general elections.
Dumelo, a popular actor-turned-politician and candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), unseated the incumbent, Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a tightly contested race.
Dumelo’s win marks a historic moment, as he had come close in the 2020 elections, narrowly losing amidst challenges such as voter absenteeism among university students due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This time around, his grassroots campaign strategies and community-focused initiatives resonated with the electorate.
Many believe his ability to connect with ordinary citizens and his integrity played a crucial role in swaying votes in his favour.
